Apply the following tips and tricks to speed up your Honor 8X for better performance and fix related problems.
Tips and tricks to Speed up performance on Honor 8X
1. Clear cache and data
We have already discussed a bit about this above. Basically, cache data are generated by the applications that we have on our phone. Every time we use an application, it creates some cache files and data. These files expire over time and turn into waste. And if the user doesn’t wipe them off manually, they tend to become bigger and eventually affect the stability and general functioning of the phone.
Some applications gather a small amount of cache data. Whereas, some applications like Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, etc, create heaps of such unwanted data. Thus, we would recommend you to clear off cache files and data related to such applications like Facebook, and other social media apps.
The following steps should help you clear app cache on your phone:
- Open the Settings.
- Tap on the Apps -> Apps list.
- Now, tap on the App that you want to clear its cache (Facebook, Instagram, etc.,).
- Tap on Storage.
- Now, tap on Clear Cache and Clear Data.
- Repeat the above steps for other applications.
You should perform this action frequently for social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, etc. These applications accumulate heaps of cache files within a small span of time. Must see: How to take screenshots on Honor 8X
Further, if you’re facing lots of problems and bugs on your phone, you can clear off all the cache files at once. That will free some good amount of space on your phone.
For that purpose, we would use the recovery mode to wipe cache partition on this phone. The following instructions shall help you perform this action:
- Turn OFF your phone.
- Now boot into the recovery mode using these steps:
- Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons together.
- Once the Honor Logo comes up, release the Power button while holding the Volume Up button.
- Keep holding the Volume Up button till Recovery Mode appears.
- Now, tap on Wipe Cache partition and perform this action.
- Exit the recovery mode.
Remember, clearing cache won’t delete any of your app or file. It only wipes off cache files and data associated with applications and games.
This will free some good amount of internal storage on your phone.
If you find that situation doesn’t get well, you might want factory reset your phone. The following solution you should follow.
2. Perform a factory reset
First of all, you should know that this will wipe your phone completely. That means, everything that stored within your phone is erased during this action. And unfortunately, we cannot revert this action. Once files have been deleted, you would no longer get access to them.
Therefore, we recommend you to back up everything that is important to you. For that purpose, you can use the inbuilt applications like Huawei Backup, Google Drive or Google Photos. Or just simply, copy files to your computer.
Again, we will use the recovery mode to perform this action. You should be certain of that fact that performing this action will turn your phone into its factory fresh condition. All of your applications, games, downloads and media files are removed. Thus, think twice before performing this action.
This action is highly recommended for those who are facing lots of performance and stability related problems. Also, you can apply this solution right after an update. Many times it happens that →phone gets stuck after we update.
We hope things are clear to you regarding this factory reset. Now, just follow the below steps to perform this action:
- Turn OFF your phone.
- Again, boot into the recovery mode.
- Under the recovery mode, tap on ‘Wipe data/Factory reset’.
- Exit this mode.
Thereafter, allow your phone to boot up. For the first boot up, it might take several minutes that are usual to happen. It should have fixed all bugs/issues, resisting your Honor 8X to run properly. This should calibrate the overall performance on your phone.
Now, we can move further and proceed to speed up this phone further.
3. Speed up Animations
It is one of the most popular tricks that Android users apply on their phone. This will make your phone more responsive that apparently makes actions faster. That certainly makes users to observe a performance boost. Basically, the Android OS renders numbers of animations while we use our phone.
These visuals/animations have certain durations and extents. Therefore, if we reduce their extent and duration time, that would make actions happen fast as compared to the default values. Overall, this trick will save some processing and GPU rendering power. That should certainly add some positive points in favor of performance of the Honor 8X.
In order to access the Animation settings, you will need to →enable the Developer Options on your phone. And that’s not tough either. The following steps will help you enable this menu on your phone:
- Open Settings on your phone.
- Tap on System (or proceed to next step)
- Tap on About phone.
- Now, locate the Build Number and tap it 7 times to activate the Developer Options.
That enables the Developer Options on your phone and you can access this menu right away through the Settings menu.
Now, follow the below steps to customize animations for better performance and stability on your Honor 8X:
- Tap on Settings menu.
- Tap on Developer Options.
- Under this menu, locate: “Windows Animation Scale”, “Transition Animation scale” and “Animator duration scale”.
- To each these entities, put 0.5X value.
- Then, restart your phone.
After your phone boots up, you should observe that actions are happening snappier as compared to previous performance. That will enhance that responsiveness while ensuring that users experience is intact.
That’s a sure way to →improve performance on Android phones. Now, proceed further for more useful tips and tricks.
4. Enable Force GPU Rendering
This is going to push up the graphics performance on your phone. By default, the Android OS is set to use CPU processors to render many aspects of the user interface. Whereas, the GPU chip is used for specific tasks only.
Once we enable the ‘Force GPU rendering’ option within the Developer Options, most of the visual part would be handed to the GPU chip. That will keep the device’s processor free for real-time requests and processes. That somewhat improves the overall performance of the phone.
Since we are seeking ways to squeeze out the last ounce of performance out of the phone, this thing worth your try.
Just follow the below steps to apply this setting on your phone:
- Open Settings menu on your phone.
- Tap on the Developer Options.
- Now, look for ‘Force GPU rendering’ and enable that option.
- Exit this menu.
Now, observe your phone thoroughly. You should see some positive outcomes. It also improves the performance of some games.
5. Reduce the DPI Value – improves readability
The DPI term is somewhat associated with the screen. It stands for Dot-per-inch and controls the size of on-screen content like text and icons. By default, the DPI is set according to the screen resolution that force on-screen content (texts and icons) to appear small. In order to speed up the performance a bit or simply to save some processing power, we can reduce down this value.
This increases the size of the icons and texts (without changing the screen-resolution). And to render a big object, a less amount of processing and GPU resources are required. That somewhat impacts the performance of the phone positively.
The following instructions should help you further:
- Open the Settings.
- Tap on the Developer Options.
- Now, look for ‘minimum width’ or ‘smallest width’ and tap on it.
- Now, put change the default value to 360 or more.
- Exit the menu and restart your phone.
That’s it. You’ve successfully reduced the DPI value of your phone.
Most importantly, this tip helps to improve the readability on the phone. The text and icons will become bigger, so anyone can read and see them.
6. Debloat your phone – disable unwanted apps
Have you ever checked how many (unnecessary ones) apps keep running in the background? If not, you must check it right away. Just like the other OEMs, Honor smartphones are bloated well with many bloatware (unwanted/unnecessary) apps.
And the most annoying thing is that; most of them run in the background consuming power resources, battery life, and the internet. That’s where you should step-in and inspect these applications.
Also, some of these applications outcome irritating notifications that appear frequently in the Notification area. I’ve seen many on Honor 7X and 9. Therefore, you should get rid of these unwanted apps. However, you cannot remove applications permanently as these applications come pre-installed.
Certainly, there’s one thing that we can do. We can disable them, that is enough to free a huge amount of RAM and boost the overall performance of this phone. With we had tested this on Galaxy Note 9, we found that →disabling bloatware apps brought 1.5 GB RAM free.
Thus, we expect some good results if you disable most of these unused/unwanted apps on your phone. Just use the below instructions:
- Open Settings menu on your phone.
- Now, tap on Apps -> Apps list.
- Tap on the application that you want to disable.
- Then, tap on the Disable button and give your confirmation.
- Repeat the steps for other applications.
Disable all the applications that you don’t use. That will surely free a good amount of RAM, internal storage and improve the overall performance of your Honor 8X.
