Who Will Win the English Premier League This Season?

The English Premier League is one of the hottest and most difficult leagues globally. It is so competitive that, except for a few seasons, the battle for the crown enters the last minutes of the season. One perfect example was the “Aguerooooooooo” shout that saw the EPL title move from Old Trafford to the Etihad. There have been countless moments over the years.

Many punters try to predict who would win the league at the start of the season, and like NASCAR odds, it’s usually calculated based on team strength and squad depth. The 2015/2016 season shocked us even for a competitive league like the EPL. We saw Leicester take the title in some incredible fashion.

Although this season we might not have that fairytale, the battle is still very much competitive, and we might see one that transcends to the end with two major teams at the helm. Both contenders have been at it in recent years, and we believe this is another incredible year to watch them go at it.

Manchester City

The defending champions are in the best position to win the league this season. However, they’ve been dragged into a two-horse race after a few rough games, where the gap is closer than ever. Another slip-up might see them lose their top position and eventually take the title away from them.

Pep Guardiola’s team continues to impress in the league, and undoubtedly, they are the best team in the EPL. The way City plays makes it hard for others to compete, and it’s in only a few games, that they struggle to control and dominate. So, it is no surprise that they’ve won two out of the last three season’s EPL titles.

Although Manchester City is a team grounded in one philosophy under the tactical genius of Pep Guardiola, we continue to see that some players hold more important roles than others. Players like Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, and academy boy Phil Foden are some of the top key players on the team. They might be the ones to deliver the title to the blue side of Manchester.

Liverpool

Ever since Liverpool’s rejuvenation, the league hasn’t been the same, and winning the league in 2019/2020 has helped keep the EPL as competitive as ever. Manchester City was looking like they would continue to run away with the league, but Liverpool has pulled their weight to keep it tight at the top.

This season, the battle is even tighter at the top, and we might see this go all the way; like City, Liverpool can win the league if they win all their remaining games. So, it all just gets much more exciting, and every matchday is now a great contest for all to watch.

With only a few games to go, and a match against the league leaders, Liverpool has work to do if they will win their 20th league title. It won’t be easy, but Jurgen Klopp’s men have shown that they are up to the task. There is a good chance as long as key players like Salah, Mane, Arnold, Robertson, and Van Dijk remain fit.

Others

Other teams in the league are not as close to the top as the two. Chelsea would have been the third team to battle it out. However, in December, injury woes and a tough schedule saw the European Champions fall from the leading position to 3rd place. During that period, a bad run of form has seen them closer to the top four battle than the top.

However, with most of the team fit again, they have been on a good run of form, and they haven’t lost a game since losing to the league leaders in January. Although it is logically impossible to win the league this season, they can close the gap to put the pressure on. Click here:

Bottom Line

The EPL is an exciting league with many facets, and we enjoy every battle, from the top to the relegation battle. If you are a soccer fan or want to enjoy the sport, you should give the EPL a shot. There’s everything, from interesting matchups to local rivalry. You’ll never find a dull moment.
