No, the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 Kit does not require an internet connection. Each IQ Panel 4 is shipped with either an AT&T or a Verizon cellular communicator. Every IQ Panel 4 comes with this cellular module already installed. Because of this, the cell will be able to handle the burden even without an internet connection.

The Qolsys IQ Panel 4 is an alarm system with a 7″ All-In-One touchscreen. It includes a host of contemporary features that work flawlessly with Z-Wave smart home appliances thanks to its integrated Z-Wave Plus V2 controller. It has the capacity to accommodate 242 users and 128 zones. When replacing an older wireless panel, the panel can be bought in black or white and is available in many “flavours” that allow you to keep using your current RF sensors.

The different legacy RF receiver choices that are available for the IQ Panel 4 are what we refer to as “flavours.” These include the 433 MHz (DSC) flavour, the 345 MHz (Honeywell/2gig) flavour, and the 319.5 MHz (Qolsys/GE/Interlogix) flavour. The 915 MHz PowerG frequency sensors are supported by each of the three (3) panel varieties that offer legacy RF receivers. There is also an IQ Panel 4 kit that is PowerG-only and does not support legacy receivers. The kit’s panel is only available in white and is available in Verizon or AT&T variations. Each IQ Panel 4 has options for panel colour, receiver, and cellular carrier in addition to a built-in dual-band WiFi module.

The cellular module must be used on a monitored system that is linked to Alarm.com in order to use the IQ Panel 4. This is the reason why only the Gold plans or higher indicate support for Alarm.com on the Alarm Grid Monitoring page. The Internet connection is also available but not required. Whenever possible, we advise using the internet. For the panel to stay current, an internet connection is preferred because Qolsys and Alarm.com do not let panel firmware updates to be downloaded over cellular. When there is no internet connection, the panel can be updated locally.

Additionally, dual-path communication over the Internet, which offers two (2) channels, is frequently faster than other communication methods. The panel will use both paths to send all signals while the internet is accessible, ensuring that the quickest route is taken for each signal. The first of these signals that the Alarm.com server gets will be processed, and the “losing” signal will be ignored. The IQ Panel 4 can connect to either a 2.4GHz or a 5GHz WiFi network thanks to the dual-band WIFI module.

Excellent communication back to Alarm.com is still available while merely utilizing cellular connectivity. Even though cellular may not always be quicker than IP, it is still regarded as the more secure method of communication. Cellular towers don’t typically shut down and cutting any in-home wiring won’t make them lose their ability to transmit. Just make sure the secured premises have a strong enough cellphone signal. The claimed signal strength ranges from 0 to 6 bars, with 6 being the maximum. The minimum signal level that is advised is two (2) bars or more.
