A second passport is becoming a vital need nowadays, and it is not so hard to get in most cases if you choose an appropriate citizenship-by-investment program. All Caribbean programs are quite affordable, and you will not have to wait for long to get your passport – or maybe passports for the whole family! However, you need to hurry as the conditions may become more stringent soon under the pressure of the major powers, and the programs will cost more or will be closed down.
This post is devoted to the economic citizenship program offered by Antigua and Barbuda, a Caribbean state with stunning beaches and wonderful nature. However, if you want to know more, welcome to our portal called InternationalWealth where you can read a lot of articles on different citizenship- and residence-by-investment programs, the news in this market, and useful tips for investors. All of them are written by our specialists who help people relocate on a daily basis.
You can also book a free session with our expert if you struggle with the choice or don’t know where to start. We charge nothing for analyzing your situation (including the country of origin/residence, budget, needs, preferences, and plans) and shortlisting the options that will suit you best. And if you want to delegate all the administrative affairs to us, including interaction with local authorities, we will be glad to help you at a moderate fee. All you will need to do is provide the documents and then collect your passport at the nearest embassy or consulate.
Why Acquire the Citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda?
Here are the main reasons why investors choose Antigua and Barbuda to acquire second citizenship:
- If you like traveling or simply need access to different countries without a visa (or with visa-upon-arrival/e-visa possibility), you should definitely get a passport of Antigua and Barbuda as you will be able to enter more than 165 states without any red tape (South American countries, Ireland, the UK, Schengen countries, and more).
- Antigua and Barbuda allows for dual citizenship, which means that you will not have to renounce your current citizenship (on the condition that your current country of residence permits dual citizenship as well). If everything is OK, you will be able to enjoy all the rights given by the two passports.
- Beneficial conditions for tax residents. Antigua and Barbuda changed its tax legislation in 2013 and exempted its tax residents from the tax on worldwide income. You will need to spend 183 days in the country to become its tax resident.
- Citizenship is granted quickly. If speed is important for you, you will probably be happy to find out that you can get a passport of Antigua and Barbuda within 4 to 6 months after submission of a full package of documents.
- A perfect country for a holiday. Antigua and Barbuda is often referred to as the Country of 365 Beaches due to its stunning recreational areas. It is an excellent destination for diving and snorkeling – and if you want to swim with stingrays, you are more than welcome! Unlike Antigua, Barbuda would be perfect for those who like to enjoy nature in solitude.
- Good transportation connections. There is a busy airport in the state that connects the Caribbean region with North America and Europe. The capital of the country, St. John’s, boasts a large port that can receive several cruise ships at once, and you can take advantage of excellent restaurants and duty-free shops near the port.
- Yachting paradise. Love yachting? Visit Jolly Harbour, a place where you will find a lot of private yachts and boats (villas and golf courses, the standard facilities for the rich, are also available here). You will be able to watch yacht regattas with the most expensive and beautiful ships among participants. There is a museum here that you might be interested in visiting as the Nelsons Dockyard was an important port for the British in the 17th century.
- Mandatory Caribbean holiday. The citizenship-by-investment program offered by Antigua and Barbuda has one peculiar requirement: you have to spend five days in the country every five years. Is that an advantage or a disadvantage? It’s hard to say. On the one hand, you may be in love with your work and consider any holiday nothing but a nuisance. On the other hand – why not spend five days in a tropical paradise? It’s up to you to see it as a benefit or a drawback.

Investment Options
There are four investment options to take advantage of – let’s take a look at them.
- Donation to the National Development Fund. If the application is submitted by a family of 2-4 members, you will have to contribute 100,000 US dollars and pay 30,000 US dollars for application processing. If you are blessed with a 5-member family, you will have to pay 130,000 US dollars and add 15,000 US dollars of an application processing fee for each next dependent.
- Grant to the University of West Indies. If you have a 6-member family, the best option to obtain the passports for all of them is to contribute 150,000 US dollars to the University of West Indies (and if your family is larger, you will have to add 15,000 US dollars for each dependent). As a bonus, one family member will have the right to get a free one year of studies at the university.
- Investment in real estate. You will have to invest 400,000 US dollars in real estate approved by the local authorities and keep it for 5 years before you can resell it. You will also have to pay processing and verification fees.
- Investment in business. You will have to invest 1,500,000 US dollars in a business project approved by the government of Antigua and Barbuda. If you make an investment in a collective project totaling USD 5 million, you can invest 400,000 US dollars.
